In order to become an LPN/LVN, a nurse must receive a nursing degree through a state-approved program. After that, they need to pass the National Council Lincesure Examination (NCLEX-PN). After that, you can also decide to become an RN (Registered Nurse) through another 
program.
The NCLEX-PN worries most, but there is a very well put-together and complete study guide online.
