LPN/LVN Study Reviews for NCLEX-PN

An LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) is the same thing as an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse), and in Canada, they are called RPN (registered practical nurse). An LPN works under the supervision of an RN (Registered Nurse).

LPNs assist in daily patient activities, like dressing, eating, exercising, and bathing—they all do vital sign measurements and, in some states, insertion of IVs. They may take more courses to be able to do obstetrics, psychiatry, pediatrics, and surgery/recovery.

To become an LPN/LVN, a nurse must earn a nursing degree and then pass the National Council Lincensure Examination (NCLEX-PN).

To study for the NCLEX-PN, many LPNs recommend Davis’s NCLEX-PN Review book, which includes a CD to make it easy to study on your computer. It includes alternative item format questions, reviews for all the fundamentals, and 1200 question bank.

Another book review for the NCLEX-PN is the Lippincott’s Review for NCLEX-PN by Timby, Camack, and Rupert. It contains over 2200 test questions in various reviews and comprehensive exams. There is a CD-ROM that has all the questions in an interactive format, making it easier to study.

CRNA Certification Exam Review

In the surgical field, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is vital to a successful surgery. A CRNA is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with a graduate-level education and certified by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA). They usually have practiced critical care for one year prior.

Since a CRNA is so educated in the field, when they have a position, it is unlikely they will be replaced by anesthesiologists. Every two years, a CRNA must become recertified, and they require continual education credits depending on the state.

Many nurses that have CRNA certification used the book Anesthesia Secrets by Duke. It provides straight forward Q&A formatting with reviews of a lot of topics. It covers equipment, daily essential information, pharmacology, disorders, and more.

Another book recommended by CRNAs is Anesthesiology Review by Faust. It has a comprehensive coverage of all the necessary topics, and has an easy to use format. It is in-depth in areas required, and is great for a CRNA foundation and review.

CNA Exam Study Guide Materials

A CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) is a vital position in the nursing field. They work under a LPN or RN doing daily activities around an office, such as cleaning rooms and linens, answering and caring for patients with exercises and more.

A CNA must know emergency procedures and must be able to stay calm in a crisis situation. They must have some kind of post-secondary nursing instructions, and pass the CNA exam.

For the CNA exam, these are the most recommended study guide books. The first is the CNA Certified Nursing Assistant Exam Cram by Whitenton and Walker. It covers everything you need to know to score high on the CNA exam, with over 150 practice test questions.

Another recommended study material is the Novell Netware 6.5 CNA Exam Cram 2. It has CD-ROM features a proficient and simplified way to study for the exam. There is also a 506 page book which breaks down everything you need to know.
